Cancel Culture | Caught being Canceled:
How to navigate relationships and leadership when members aren't on your side

presented by Lindsy Perry

Maintaining relationships with members in itself can be a challenge, but maintaining holistic leadership when your chapter has “canceled” you can be a battle that feels like there’s no end. As leaders we are often faced with making hard decisions for our organization in which many times someone will not agree. Cancel culture has added barriers to effective leadership that can create a conflict within your relationships built prior to your leadership term.
This session will:
  • Explore examples of conflict resolution
  • Identify ways to navigate difficult conversations
  • Practice effective communication, conflict management, emotional intelligence, and empathetic leadership.
  • Develop strategies to prevent conflict and cancel culture within organization

Session attendees will learn strategies and practical examples to take enact during a difficult time of being “canceled” as a chapter leader.

Hazardous Behavior | Tastefully Buzzed: Let's Fix Alcohol Education
presented by Matt Farrell and Melanie Farrell

 You've seen this movie before:
1) Chapter does something dumb while drinking
2) Chapter assigned "mandatory education"

3) Chapter gets mad, bored, or both - then (wait for it) does something dumb while drinking

Are you surprised? Is anyone?

Clear research (and common sense) tells us why. How much we drink is most influenced by our peers - not lectures or statistics. So how do we fix it? The same way it broke in the first place...

Social norms.

Enter Beers Aren't Bad. Thousands of students have demanded a modern way to discuss this taboo subject. We don't need another program, we need a lifestyle.

We call it "Tastefully Buzzed."

We'll discuss three ways how to live it. Better goals for why you drink. Gaining freedom in how much you drink. Owning the outcomes of what happens.

You'll help us make it more practical, actionable, and relevant for your brothers and sisters.

Y'all ready to get tastefully buzzed?

presented by Chris Molina

“Why you talking white?”

Chris Molina has heard this question, or some variation, many times in his life.

Of Puerto Rican and Trinidadian decent, Chris grew up in predominantly African American and Latinx communities, comfortably interacting in each. He could code switch seamlessly. This signature program is designed to equip students of color and white classmates, staff, and faculty with the tools to understand Code Switching, it’s inherent benefits and harms. More than anything, Chris wants attendees to know they can talk openly, and genuinely, in all social situations without putting the comfort of others before their own. He wants you to understand how & why this connects to member engagement. He wants you and your members to live authentically.

Presenter Biography:

Chris Molina is a 3-time award winning speaker, an Amazon Best-Selling Author of his book I’m in a Leadership Role, Now What? The Student Edition, a United States Marine Corps Veteran (serving 7 years on Active Duty), a Purdue University Alum, and a filmmaker.
