CLOSED: 2023 NGLA Awards | Individual Awards

During the 2023 NGLA Annual Conference, the Northeast Greek Leadership Association will recognize chapters, councils, communities, and individuals for their outstanding accomplishments in 2022. These organizations and individuals, through their programs, initiatives, and commitment to the fraternal movement, help to advance the mission of NGLA.

Campuses found in violation of the NGLA Code of Conduct in 2022 are not eligible to apply for 2023 NGLA Awards.

Hank Nuwer Award for Hazing Prevention

This award recognizes a chapter, council, community, student, campus professional, campus volunteer, national organization staff member or volunteer, or community member that has made a significant contribution to hazing prevention within a fraternity/sorority community.

Nominations are limited to three (3) letters of support per nominee.

Greek Leader of Distinction Award

This award recognizes several outstanding members of the fraternity/sorority communities throughout the Northeast. These students are individuals who exemplify the ideals of their fraternity or sorority in their daily lives.

The recipient of this award is a person who has:

  • Helped their organization or/and community go above and beyond to establish fraternal values.

  • Worked diligently to build positive relationships within their chapter and/or fraternity/sorority community.

  • Challenged the status quo to improve existing and/or critical problems in the fraternity/sorority experience.

  • Modeled the highest standards within the community in academics/scholarship, leadership development, philanthropic endeavors, and brotherhood/sisterhood.

  • Provided exceptional and continued service to their own fraternity/sorority and/or campus community and/or the extended interfraternal world.

The nominee must be in good standing with their organization.

Each community may nominate one (1) student per governing council. Nominations are limited to three (3) letters of support per nominee.

Guenzler Award

The Guenzler Award recognizes a staff member or volunteer of a fraternity/sorority organization who has made significant and long-term contributions to the fraternity/sorority community within the Northeast region or to the Northeast Greek Leadership Association.

The recipient of this award is a person who has:

  • Challenged conventional wisdom to discover new solutions to critical problems in the fraternity/sorority experience.

  • Supported systemic change and continued progress in the undergraduate fraternal experience.

  • Demonstrated exceptional ethical leadership and values consistently and routinely.

  • Acted with courage to challenge the status quo and accomplish goals.

  • Fostered positive change that advances the fraternal movement.

  • Provided exceptional and continued service to their own fraternity/sorority and/or campus community and/or the extended interfraternal world.

To be eligible for this award, the nominee

  • Does not have to be a member of an inter/national organization.

  • If a member of an inter/national organization, must be in good standing.

Each community or organization may nominate one (1) volunteer. Nominations are limited to three (3) letters of support per nominee.

Josette Kaufman Award

The purpose of this award is to honor the positive impact chapters, councils, and communities have done in the health and wellness areas including, but not limited to, women's and men's health issues, sexual assault, cyber-bullying, and/or mental health education and prevention.

Nominations are limited to three (3) letters of support per nominee.

Philippi Award

The purpose of this award is to recognize a fraternity/sorority campus professional who has made significant contributions to the fraternity/sorority community within the Northeast region by advising any governing council.

The recipient of this award is a person who has:

  • Modeled exceptional ethical leadership and values consistently and routinely.

  • Encouraged positive change that ensures the long-term success of the fraternity/sorority community.

  • Acted inclusively and collaboratively.

  • Challenged students to think critically.

Each campus community may nominate one (1) professional. Nominations are limited to three (3) letters of support per nominee.

Bonnie Wunsch Volunteer Service Award

This award recognizes a volunteer who has made significant contributions to the Northeast Greek Leadership Association.

The recipient of this award is someone who has:

  • Provided exceptional and continued service to their own fraternity/sorority and/or campus community and/or the extended interfraternal world.

Nominations are limited to three (3) letters of support per nominee and should address specific volunteer involvement with NGLA.
